Is there something you’ve always wanted to do but never done it? Maybe you wanted to be an artist, master a musical instrument, make jewelry, be an actor, become a pastry chef or be a veterinarian. You have a million excuse: no time, money, am responsible for a family, can’t make a living at it or have no skill to do it. Blah, blah, blah. Just do it already!
No, I’m not suggesting you drop everything and all of your responsibilities and move to Hollywood. Take baby steps and start small. You can even keep it small but do something that you love… even just a little bit. Most of us don’t do these things we want because we feel it has to be all or nothing and it will mean a huge life change. It doesn’t have to.
“I can’t take the time for that! I’m too busy! I have to earn a living, find a job, care for family, work at the church, etc!”. I’m here to tell you that you can’t afford not to do this! Why is doing that thing you’ve always wanted to do important? Because it creates peace and joy in your life.
So, start small. Take an acting class or a cooking class. Learn how to play that instrument even if you teach yourself. Volunteer with animals to feed your passion of being a vet. All of this may seem trivial to you as you read this. I assure you, it isn’t.
We are all going at mock five speed with our hair on fire all the time. We’re exhausted, stressed and disconnected from ourselves and loved ones. When you engage in this one thing for yourself, you will feel centered in that moment. Your passions and creativity will flow. Inspiration and motivation will be ignited. You will have moments of joy. All of this will spill over to every aspect of your life because life will be more enjoyable. Your family, friends and co-workers will be impacted as well. You will feel calmer and in the calmness you’ll have more clarity when you need it.
See, you can’t afford not to do this. Pick something on your list and start small. Give yourself and everyone in your life the gift of a more peaceful and happier you!
