Recently I was on a road trip with my dog, a friend and her two dogs. We were on the road for 3 straight days, driving from Phoenix to Minnesota, in the middle of the heat wave in the Midwest. It was an unusual trip, to say the least. This is a bit of a long story but I want to share the details to make my point so please indulge me.
We experienced a few challenges along the way, some of them very serious. First, on day one, we discovered a slow leak in the car. We weren’t sure if the Colonel was going to get us to our destination. Second, my little dog Zeus almost died of heat stroke. Finally, after a 12 hour day, we got lost on the home stretch.
The stress was enormous, as you can imagine. But there was divinity in all of this and it was truly remarkable. Every situation had its own elegant resolution. We were being guided and we were definitely protected. Yes, we had many unseen friends that were orchestrating things quite nicely for us.
The car made it all the way to Minnesota without a problem. All we (or my friend, I should say) had to do was check the oil regularly and add a total of one quart. We learned to ignored the burning smell every time we stopped. Maybe our unseen friends were guiding the car for us. Who knows?!
My dog, Zeus, was having trouble breathing the entire time. I later found out it was due to a couple of factors but they all led up to one life threatening situation.
Driving through Des Moines, IA, on our last day, he looked very bad and his breathing was very challenged. My friend looked at me and said “we need to take him to the vet”. So, I got on my “around me” app and found the closest vet which happened to be less than a mile away. And, just so happens, the vet had been an ER vet for 15 years. You couldn’t ask for a better vet on a case like this.
The vet says that had we waited another couple of hours, Zeus, my sweet little toy Pomeranian, would have had a heat stroke. Unseen friends were at work again guiding us to this doc at the perfect time. He treated Zeus and 2 hours later we were back on the road. Once we reached Minnesota, the neighbor happened to be a vet and felt Zeus needed one more med which was the missing piece that brought Zeus back to perfect health. Maybe he was an angel in disguise?
Finally, on the last hour of our very long day, we took a wrong turn. We were exhausted and stressed from the day’s events. Thankfully my phone has a GPS map on it which guided us home. It added an hour to our already very long day but I’m gonna give this one to the unseen friends again because it was only one hour instead of two.
The point to all this is that we are guided in everything we do, all the time. Angels, guides, our intuition, etc. Intrinsically, I know this yet I often forget. I’m always taken care of in these situations. So now I want to remember this journey so that I can allow myself to be taken care of in all areas of my life, including with the things I want to create. It can happen. In fact, it is happening. We just need to get out of the way and allow it to unfold or to recognize what is going on.
I’m sure you have a story like this. Probably more than one. Yet we can all have stories like this every day! Let’s make that happen, ok? Are you with me?
Here are some ways to get out of the way so things can unfold elegantly AND so that you can recognize the beauty in things that are happening:
1. Be present and in the moment. Make this your norm. Fully engage in what you are doing at the time.
2. Let go, detach and trust. Have your preferences yet preface them with “this or better” and trust the process.
3. Lighten up your energy by laughing, having more fun, doing things you enjoy. Don’t be so serious all the time. Live life.
4. Be patient. Timing is everything.
5. Engage in more self care so that you can do #1-4 more easily.
Allow your life to unfold with elegance. Get out of the way so that it can. Pay attention and maybe you will see that it already is in some ways. Don’t resist. Don’t persist. Allow, choose, act, choose again and LIVE. You will be amazed how things don’t really have to be this difficult!
